What is TRUE and who is the issuing authority?

TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) certification is used by projects and events to define, pursue and
achieve your zero waste goals, cutting your carbon footprint and supporting the environment and public health.

TRUE is a whole systems approach that aims to transform the way materials flow through society, leading to zero waste. It advocates for the adoption of sustainable resource management and waste reduction practices that have positive environmental, health, and economic outcomes.

TRUE is administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) which also administers the LEED and WELL programs.

What is a TRUE Advisor and why do we need one?

A TRUE Certified Zero Waste Advisor has completed the zero waste trainings and examination by GBCI. The TRUE Advisor certificate demonstrates that an individual possesses knowledge of zero waste terminology, tools, technologies, and implementation strategies to assist in the TRUE certification process in accordance with the TRUE Rating System.
